From Residential Sales to the Wrestling Ring
A Swindon-based estate agency owner has made an unconventional career pivot, closing his property business to pursue professional wrestling full-time in Mexico. Callum Aslantepe, 29, shut down Aslan Real Estate in January 2026 after a successful wrestling tour of Mexico convinced him to relocate permanently and commit entirely to the sport under the ring name Prince Phoenix.
Aslantepe's decision marks a dramatic departure from the UK property sector, where he had built a successful residential agency specialising in Wiltshire properties. However, his passion for wrestling—rekindled after a decade away from the ring—ultimately proved more compelling than the demands of estate agency management.
The Allure of Mexico's Lucha Libre Scene
The decision to relocate was driven largely by the stark difference in audience scale and cultural prominence between UK and Mexican wrestling. According to Aslantepe, an average wrestling show in the United Kingdom attracts around 300 spectators on a good evening. By contrast, major Mexican lucha libre events regularly draw thousands of fans, with wrestlers achieving celebrity status comparable to mainstream sports personalities.
Lucha libre—Mexico's traditional form of professional wrestling—ranks among the country's most popular spectator sports, with deep cultural roots and passionate fan bases. The sport's combination of theatrical storytelling, acrobatic athleticism, and the iconic masked wrestlers has made it a significant draw for live audiences.
"In Mexico we're talking thousands of fans," Aslantepe explained. "For an average show in the UK we'd get maybe 300 people on a good night."
A Childhood Dream Rekindled
Aslantepe's journey to professional wrestling began in childhood. Between ages nine and 15, he trained at a Swindon wrestling school operated by 4FW, now known as British Kingdom Pro Wrestling. After stepping away to establish his estate agency career, he eventually returned to the ring, competing across the South West and Wales before securing the opportunity to tour Mexico in 2025.
The Mexican experience proved transformative. Following his successful tour, Aslantepe made the permanent move and now competes full-time on Mexico's lucha libre circuit, where gruelling schedules—frequently performing Friday through Sunday with extensive travel—are offset by his enthusiasm for the sport.
"Wherever I'm wrestling, I'm happy," he stated. His character work as a villain—drawing from his childhood preference for wrestling's antagonists—has resonated with audiences. "I grew up watching wrestling and always favoured the bad guys and it's a lot easier to get somebody to not like you," he noted. "Prince Phoenix is a cool guy but I wouldn't get on his bad side."
What This Means for the Property Market
Whilst Aslantepe's exit from estate agency represents a personal choice rather than a market indicator, it highlights how competitive pressures and lifestyle demands in UK property remain formidable. Many agents balance the demanding schedules of weekend viewings and negotiations with personal ambitions—though few pursue such dramatic alternatives.
For investors and homebuyers seeking professional support in the UK market, this shift underscores the importance of finding reliable agents committed to the sector. Those interested in monitoring local market activity, planning alert notifications, or identifying below-market-value investment opportunities should ensure they're working with engaged professionals focused on property rather than pondering career exits.
